Did you know I started out fashion blogging (well the 2008 version of fashion blogging which was part diary)? While it’s not my focus or main passion like it was when I was sixteen, I still enjoy seeing the new trends and collections each season. I thought I would round-up some of my favorite looks from New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 and pick which ones would work well while traveling.
Funnily enough, I wound up picking collections inspired by places around the world. Initially, I just skimmed through and saved looks I loved without reading the coverage. However upon return, I realized just how many collections were geared towards women abroad. From California to Italy, here are some of my favorite looks:
Alice + Olivia
Well, this is a fun combination of inspiration– Italy and tarot cards. I’d ideally wear a lot of these outfits wandering the side streets in Europe, though dresses like the middle one feel more like cruise wear. This is also the debut of Alice + Olivia’s sunglasses which are wonderfully glamorous and retro at the same time. I love the headwear trend going on, and a lot of the styles reminded me of a more modern, playful take on Alicia Vikander’s looks in Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Cushnie Et Ochs
Much sexier and sleeker compared to the rest, this collection is inspired by Miami and Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. I’m also getting a bit of Amy Adams in American Hustle. These looks are for those with plans for cocktail dinners, happy hours, and nights out on the town. I can see a jet setter wearing these sleek dresses or jumpsuit whiles stopping in her favorite city for a weekend.
This was the collection that spurred me to look more into what’s going on at the New York Fashion Week Spring 2017 shows. I was immediately enamored when I saw a few Snapchats of the collection and needed to see more. This kind of preppy, feminine vibe is my all time favorite style. Everything from the simple shoes to the A-line cuts to the retro sunglasses and headwear… Can I please have one of everything so I can twirl my way around the Mediterranean?
Michael Kors Collection
Ahhh, Michael. I am so acquainted with this brand, I can rattle off the five main adjectives associated with it: chic, jet set, elegant, modern, and sophisticated. Don’t ask me why I know this. The idea of über stylish travel is embedded into MK’s foundations, so of course, each collection will always encapsulate this. While his neutral colored outfits will be more versatile for multi-destination travel, the punchy pinks and lime greens will be fun for island locales. I personally want the LOVE sweatshirt with a pair of shorts or comfortable pants for the plane.
This here is the collection you want if you’re headed to the beach. Think the California coastline or even Bondi Beach in Sydney, which makes sense because the main source of inspiration is the Beach Boys. I’m loving the longer dresses and simpler sandals.
ZAC Zac Posen
Here’s one for those on a more luxurious holiday. Inspired by ocean hues, you can see the colors move from lighter sandy colors to deep blue hues. There’s a delicate movement to each piece that makes it ideal for languid brunches outside and fancy dinners at night. These would actually work well for any warm weather travel, whether you’re sipping wine in South Africa’s Western Cape or wandering around Ao Nang in Thailand. I personally, would like to live in the blue dress in the middle above.
